Silhouette of Monk in the Ancient Silver Birch

  

At the end of  the month of May gales, winds caused extreme damage throughout Scotland.
The most  dramatic falling of trees was that of the beautiful Silver Birch which dominated the lawn of the Nunraw House lawn.
The tree stood for some 100 years. 


The sadness of the falling tree stirred us to bring out the framed picture out of the pantry. In the 1990s, the Guestmaster, Fr. Benedict, climbed the Silver Birch for the children to bring down a balloon caught in the branches. 
Later it was observed the extraordinary view of a monk silhouetted in the branches. A photograph was taken and framed for posterity. The silhouette remained seen in the branches until the tree was blown down.
The picture has not been altered since the day it was photographed.
