THE ROUNDS
OF THE SOUL

IN THE DIVINE WILL

22nd Round in the Divine Will

Jesus’ Descent into Limbo

My love, I see that You have already died, and oh, how I would like to die together with You! But unfortunately this is not granted me and so, Fiat! Fiat!…

I desire to receive You in my arms to enclose your most sacred humanity within my “I love You,”47* so that in everything You will see my “I love You”, hear my “I love You” and feel my “I love You”. My “I love You” will never leave You; indeed, your Will constitutes the life of my “I love You”. And do You know what this little child desires of You? I desire that your Divine Will which You so loved and did throughout your entire life on earth, may be revealed to all souls, so that all may

       ------------------------------------

47* Luisa enclosing Jesus’ humanity within her “I love You”, conveys a two-fold theologically reality. First, she unites her “soul” with all that which Jesus’ humanity experiences; second, she assimilates and deposits within her soul said experiences. Indeed, Luisa’s “I love You” emerged from her “soul” (cf. L. Piccarreta, volume 19, August 31, 1926). Luisa emphasizes that of the soul’s three powers (intellect, memory and will), the human will is the most “like” God, as it contains his immensity and power, and is therefore capable of bilocating itself “up to heaven or to the farthest places”, of being expanded and of enclosing all things within itself (cf. Ibid., volume 13, October 9, 1921; volume 23, December 22, 1927). Every act the soul accomplishes remains sealed within its will and not one of its acts will be lost (volume 12, January 1, 1920; 24, April 6, 1931).

come to love and do your Will on earth as in heaven. This little child desires to conquer You with love by making You grant your Divine Will to all souls. I entreat You, my good Jesus, to make this poor little child happy, as I desire nothing other than that which You yourself desire, namely, that your Will be known and reign in all the world.

My deceased Jesus, I have enclosed your most sacred humanity within my “I love You, I adore You, I bless You and I thank You”, thus forming in your humanity a sepulchre, as it were, for my “I love You” and entreating You to bury the human will so that it may no longer have a life of its own. I now accompany You together with our sorrowful mother into limbo with my “I love You,” and what a moving sight it is. In this holy place I see our first father Adam, Abraham, all the patriarchs and prophets, dear St. Joseph and all the good people of the Old Testament. Oh how they rejoice in seeing You and, prostrating themselves at your holy feet, they adore You, love You and thank You. It seems, however that their celebration is not complete, for with one accord, beginning with Adam their first father, together they all cry out: “To You we give thanks for all that You have done and suffered for us. Now that You have accomplished the first part [of your Messianic mission] by redeeming us, we entreat You to accomplish the second part by making your Divine Will reign on earth as in heaven.”

My love, do You not hear the choir of these voices that are so dear to You? The Queen of Sorrows ROUNDS IN THE DIVINE WILL herself entreats You, and so do I: “May your Will come, may it come and reign on earth as in heaven; grant that all may come to know of your adorable Will.” Today, the day of your death, is also the day of your victory – of your triumph. And would You refuse me [on this day] the triumph of your Divine Will over the human will? Before leaving limbo, let me hear your sweetest voice telling me that You will grant me my request – that your Will shall reign and exercise dominion on earth as in heaven.

Luisa Piccarreta, The Holy Mass. Saint Augustine, Two kinds of life

 Mystic, Patristic Reading,

COMMENT:

Luisa Piccarreta, Book of Heaven Volume 1m pp. 113-166.
The Holy Mass Effects excerpt illuminates our completed Redemption ...
In this Eastertide, beside the mystic quotation, it is re-enforced by the patristic Ascension Reading from St. Augustine, 'Two Kinds of Life'.
 + + +
The Holy Mass and Its Effects.
In particular, the Bodily Resurrection of the Dead.

I can now say that while I was listening attentively to the Divine Sacrifice, Jesus made me understand that the Mass, in the depth of the Mystery that unfolds, encompasses all the mysteries of our religion. Yes, the Mass enables us to observe everything; and it silently speaks to the heart of the infinite Love of God with unheard-of developments given for the good of man. It always reviews our completed Redemption and makes us remember each part of the sufferings that Jesus bore for us who are ungrateful for his Love. Thanks to the institution of this permanent Sacrifice, He makes us understand that He, not satisfied with dying just once on the Cross for us, wants to diffuse Himself in his immense Love, and continue his status as Victim in the Holy Eucharist.
Jesus made me understand that the Mass and the Holy Eucharist are a perennial remembrance of his Death and Resurrection, and that they communicate the antidote for our mortal life. The Mass and Eucharist tell us that our disintegrated bodies, which will decay and be reduced to ashes through death, will be resurrected on the last day, to immortal life. For the good, it will be glorious; but for the wicked, it will end in torment. Those that have not lived with Christ will not resurrect in Him; but the good who have been intimate with Christ during their lifetime, will have a resurrection similar to that of Jesus .

He made me understand well that the most consoling thing contained in the Sacrifice of the Mass is Jesus in the Sacrament of his Resurrection. It is superior to any of the other mysteries of our holy religion. This, together with his Passion and Death, is mystically renewed on our altars whenever the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass is celebrated. Under the veil of unleavened Sacramental Bread, Jesus actually gives Himself to the communicants so as to be their companion along life's pilgrimage of mortal existence. By means of his grace that comes from the Bosom of the Holy Trinity, He gives everlasting life to those that participate, with soul and body, in this Sacrament. These mysteries are so profound that only in our immortal life will we fully understand. However, now in the Sacrament, Jesus gives us, in many ways-almost tangibly-a foretaste of what He will give us in Heaven.

Foremost, the Mass disposes us to meditation on the Life, Passion and Death of Jesus, who has been gloriously resurrected. Christ's Humanity, through the vicissitudes of life, was accomplished in thirty-three years; whereas in the Mass, mystically, and in a brief period of time, it is all renewed in a state of true annihilation, in which the sacramental species contain Jesus, living and real, up to the time they are consumed. Afterwards, his real presence no longer exists Sacramentally in our hearts. He returns to the bosom of his Divine Father, just as He did when He arose from the dead. Then, consecrated anew in the Mass, under the forms of bread and wine, He descends to assume the Victim state of peace and propitiating love. His "Sacramental state" is renewed for our good as wayfarers, and for the glory and satisfaction of his Eternal Father.

Thus, in the Sacrament, He reminds us of the resurrection of our own bodies into glory. Just as He resides in the bosom of his Father when He ceases his Sacramental state, so too will we pass to our eternal residence in the bosom of God when we cease to exist in our present life. Our bodies will be consumed like the Sacramental forms that seem to exist no longer. Then, on the universal Day of Resurrection, by the miracle of God's Omnipotence, our bodies will acquire "life"; and joined to our souls, will go to enjoy the eternal beatitude of God. Others, to the contrary, will go away from God to suffer atrocious, eternal torments.

If these marvellous effects flow from the limpid and unobscured Sacrifice of the Mass, why do Christians not accustom themselves to profit from it? For a soul that loves God, can there be anything more consoling and beneficent? In the Sacrament, He nourishes a soul so that it can be worthy of Heaven; and He gives the body the privilege of becoming beatified in the Eternal Will of God.

It seems to me that on that great day, a supernatural event will occur like the natural event that takes place after we have contemplated the starry heavens-and the sun appears. What happens? The sun, in its dazzling light, absorbs the light of the stars and, even though they disappear from the observer's sight, each star keeps its light, and stays in place. When the sun sets, the stars receive new light and shine in the firmament.

Like the stars, the souls that find themselves in front of the Universal Judgment in the Valley of Jehosophat as it was before the arrival of Jesus, will be able to observe other souls. The light acquired and communicated by the Most Holy Sacrifice and Sacrament of Love will be observable to each soul. But when Jesus, the Judge and Eternal Sun of Justice, appears in his great light, He will absorb into Himself, all the blessed souls that shine like stars. He will allow them to exist always, to swim in the immense sea of God's perfection.

And what will happen to souls deprived of this Divine Light? If I wanted to answer this question, I could write indefinitely. But if the Lord wishes, I shall reserve this for another time and say something else about the object of his Love. He had me understand, simply, that the bodies that are re-united to the souls with resplendent light, will be eternally united with God. On the other hand, other souls, because of the lack of light from not wishing to participate in the Sacrifice and Sacrament of Love, will be thrown into the depths of the thickest darkness; and because of their ingratitude, knowingly committed against so great a Giver, they will be placed in the slavery of Lucifer, the prince of darkness. They will be eternally tormented by terrible and terrifying remorse.

God has given us a new birth into living hope, alleluia.

FIRST READING

From the first letter of the apostle John
3:11-17

Love one another

RESPONSORY
1 John 3:16, 14

By this we have come to know the meaning of God’s love:
Christ laid down his life for us,
and we should lay down our lives for our brothers, alleluia.

We know that we have passed from death to life,
because we love our brothers.
And we should lay down our lives for our brothers, alleluia.

SECOND READING

From the treatise on John by Saint Augustine, bishop
(Tract. 124, 5, 7: CCL 36, 685-687)

Two kinds of life

The Church recognizes two kinds of life as having been commended to her by God. One is a life of faith, the other a life of vision; one is a life passed on pilgrimage in time, the other in a dwelling place in eternity; one is a life of toil, the other of repose; one is spent on the road, the other in our homeland; one is active, involving labor, the other contemplative, the reward of labor.

The first kind of life is symbolized by the apostle Peter, the second by John. All of the first life is lived in this world, and it will come to an end with this world. The second life will be imperfect till the end of this world, but it will have no end in the next world. And so Christ says to Peter: Follow me; but of John he says: If I wish him to remain until I come, what is that to you? Your duty is to follow me.

You are to follow me by imitating my endurance of transient evils; John is to remain until my coming, when I will bring eternal blessings. A way of saying this more clearly might be: Your active life will be perfect if you follow the example of my passion, but to attain its full perfection John’s life of contemplation must wait until I come.

Perfect patience is to follow Christ faithfully, even to death, but for perfect knowledge we must await his coming. Here, in the land of the dying, the sufferings of the world must be endured; there, in the land of the living, shall be seen the good things of the Lord.

Christ’s words, I wish him to remain until I come, should not be taken to imply that John was to remain on earth until Christ’s coming, but rather that he was to wait because it is not now but only when Christ comes that the life he symbolizes will find fulfillment. On the other hand, Christ says to Peter: Your duty is to follow me, because the life Peter symbolizes can attain its goal only by action here and now.

Yet we should make no mental separation between these great apostles. Both lived the life symbolized by Peter; both were to attain the life symbolized by John. Symbolically, one followed, the other remained, but living by faith they both endured the sufferings of this present life of sorrow and they both longed for the joys of the future life of happiness.

Nor were they alone in this. They were one with the whole Church, the bride of Christ, which will in time be delivered from the trials of this life and live for ever in the joy of the next. These two kinds of life were represented respectively by Peter and John, yet both apostles lived by faith in this present, passing life and in eternal life both have the joy of vision.

And so for the sake of all the saints inseparably united to the body of Christ, to guide them through the storms of this life, Peter, the chief of the apostles, received the keys of the kingdom of heaven with the power to bind and loose sins; and for the sake of those same saints, to plumb the depths of that other, hidden life, John the evangelist reclined on the breast of Christ.

For it is not only Peter but the whole Church that binds and looses from sin; and as for the sublime teaching of John about the Word, who in the beginning was God with God, and everything else he told us about Christ’s divinity, and about the trinity and unity of the Godhead, which now, until the Lord comes, is all like a faint reflection in a mirror, but which will be seen face to face in the kingdom of heaven—it was not only John who drank in this teaching that came forth from the Lord’s breast as from a fountain. All who belong to the Lord are to drink it in, each according to his capacity, and this is why the Lord himself has spread John’s gospel throughout the world.

RESPONSORY
1 Peter 5:10; 2 Corinthians 4:14

The God of all grace has called us to glory in Christ Jesus.
He will restore, support and strengthen us
after we have suffered for a little while, alleluia.

He who raised Jesus from the dead
will also raise us up with Jesus.
He will restore, support and strengthen us
after we have suffered for a little while, alleluia.

CONCLUDING PRAYER

Let us pray.

Father,
at your Son’s ascension into heaven
you promised to send the Holy Spirit on your apostles.
You filled them with heavenly wisdom:
fill us also with the gift of your Spirit.
Grant this through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son,
who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit,
one God, for ever and ever.
 Amen.

COMMENT:
the highest and most sublime mysteries of our holy religion are:  Jesus in the Sacrament and the resurrection of our bodies to glory.  These are profound mysteries, which we will comprehend only beyond the stars; but Jesus in the Sacrament makes us almost touch them with our own hands, in different ways.  First, His Resurrection; second, His state of annihilation under those species, though it is certain that Jesus is there present, alive and real.  (Quote from Book of Heaven - Volume 1).

Feast of Easter

From the Writings of
The Servant of God Luisa Piccarreta

The Resurrection is the Confirmation of the Fiat Voluntas Tua on earth as It is in Heaven.

The Queen of Heaven in the Kingdom of the Divine Will. Limbo.

Day 28 – The Expectation.
Victory over Death: the Resurrection.

The soul to her Queen Mother:
My pierced Mama, your little child, knowing that You are alone, without your beloved Good, Jesus, wants to cling to You to keep You company in your most bitter desolation. Without Jesus, all things change into sorrow for You. The memory of His harrowing pains, the sweet sound of His voice which still resounds in your ear, the charming gaze of dear Jesus, now sweet, now sad, now swollen with tears, but which always enraptured your maternal Heart – as You don’t have them with You any more, they are like sharp swords which pierce your maternal Heart through.
Desolate Mama, your dear child wants to give You relief and compassion for each pain. Even more, I would like to be Jesus, to be able to give You all the love, the comforts, the reliefs and the compassion which Jesus Himself would have given You in your state of bitter desolation. Sweet Jesus gave me to You as your child; therefore, put me in His place in your maternal Heart, and I will be all for my Mama; I will dry your tears, and I will always keep You company.
Lesson of the Desolate Queen and Mother:
Dearest child, thank you for your company; but if you want your company to be sweet and dear to Me, and bearer of relief to my pierced Heart, I want to find in you the Divine Will operating and dominating, and that you do not surrender even one breath of life to your will. Then will I exchange you with my Son Jesus, because, His Will being in you, in It I will feel Jesus in your heart. Oh, how happy I will be to find in you the first fruit of His pains and of His death! In finding my beloved Jesus in my child, my pains will change into joys, and my sorrows into conquests.
Now, listen to Me, child of my sorrows. As my dear Son breathed His last, He descended into Limbo, triumpher and bearer of glory and happiness to that prison in which were all the Patriarchs and the Prophets, the first father Adam, dear Saint Joseph, my holy parents, and all those who had been saved by virtue of the foreseen merits of the future Redeemer. I was inseparable from my Son, and not even death could take Him away from Me. So, in the ardor of my sorrows I followed Him into Limbo, and was spectator of the feast and of the thanksgivings which that whole great crowd of people gave to my Son, who had suffered so much, and whose first step had been toward them, to beatify them and to bring them with Himself into celestial glory. So, as He died, conquests and glory began for Jesus and for all those who loved Him. This, dear child, is symbol of how, as the creature makes her will die through union with the Divine Will, conquests of divine order, glory and joy begin – even in the midst of the greatest sorrows.
Even though the eyes of my soul followed my Son and I never lost sight of Him, at the same time, during those three days in which He was buried, I felt such yearning to see Him risen, that in the ardor of my love I kept repeating: “Rise, my Glory! Rise, my Life!” My desires were ardent, my sighs, of fire – to the point of feeling consumed.
Now, in these yearnings, I saw my dear Son, accompanied by that great crowd of people, leaving Limbo and going back to the sepulcher. It was the dawn of the third day, and just as all nature had cried over Him, now it rejoiced; so much so, that the sun anticipated its course to be present at the act in which my Son was rising. But – oh marvel! – before rising again, He showed that crowd of people His Most Holy Humanity – bleeding, wounded, disfigured; the way it had been reduced for love of them and for all. All were moved, and admired the excesses of love and the great portent of Redemption.
Now, my child, oh, how I wish you to be present in the act of the Resurrection of my Son! He was all Majesty; from His Divinity, united to His soul, He unleashed enchanting seas of light and beauty, such as to fill Heaven and earth. Then, triumphantly, making use of His power, He commanded His dead Humanity to receive His soul again, and to rise, triumphantly and gloriously, to immortal life. What a solemn act! My dear Jesus triumphed over death, saying: “Death, you will be death no longer – but life!”
With this act of triumph, He placed the seal on the fact that He was Man and God; and with His Resurrection, He confirmed the Gospel, His miracles, the life of the Sacraments, and the whole life of the Church. And not only this, but He obtained triumph over the human wills, weakened and almost extinguished to true good, to let triumph over them the life of that Divine Will which was to bring the fullness of Sanctity and of all goods to creatures. And at the same time, by virtue of His Resurrection, He sowed into the bodies the seed of resurrection to everlasting glory. My child, the Resurrection of my Son encloses everything, says everything, confirms everything, and is the most solemn act that He did for love of creatures.
Now, listen to Me, my child; I want to speak to you as a Mother who loves her child very much. I want to tell you what it means to do the Divine Will and to live of It; and the example is given to you by my Son and by Me. Our life was strewn with pains, with poverty, with humiliations, to the point of seeing my beloved Son die of pains; but in all this ran the Divine Will. It was the life of our pains, and We felt triumphant and conquerors, to the extent of changing even death into life; so much so, that in seeing Its great good, We voluntarily exposed ourselves to sufferings because, since the Divine Will was in Us, no one could impose himself on It, or on Us. Suffering was in our power, and We called upon it as nourishment and triumph of the Redemption, so as to be able to bring good to the entire world.
Now, dear child, if your life and your pains have the Divine Will as their center of life, be certain that sweet Jesus will use you and your pains to give help, light and grace to the whole universe. Therefore, pluck up courage; the Divine Will can do great things where It reigns. In all circumstances, reflect yourself in Me and in your sweet Jesus, and move forward.
The soul:
Holy Mama, if You help me and keep me sheltered under your mantle, acting as my celestial sentry, I am certain that I will convert all my pains into Will of God; and I will follow You, step by step, along the unending ways of the Supreme Fiat, because I know that your charming love of Mother and your power will win over my will, and You will keep it in your power and exchange it with the Divine Will. Therefore, my Mama, I entrust myself to You, and I abandon myself into your arms.
Little Sacrifice:
Today, to honor Me, your will say seven times: “Not my will, but Yours be done”, offering Me my sorrows to ask Me for the grace always to do the Divine Will.

Ejaculatory Prayer:
My Mama, for the sake of the Resurrection of your Son, make me rise again in the Will of God

Book of Heaven – Volume 1
…Now, while seeing Jesus or the priest celebrating the Divine Sacrifice, Jesus would make me understand that in the Mass there is all the depth of our sacrosanct religion.  Ah! yes, the Mass tells us everything and speaks to us about everything.  The Mass reminds us of our redemption; It speaks to us, step by step, about the pains that Jesus suffered for us; It also manifests to us His immense love, for He was not content with dying on the Cross, but He wanted to continue His state of victim in the Most Holy Eucharist.  The to be present in the act of the Resurrection of my Son!also tells us that our bodies, decayed, reduced to ashes by death, will rise again on the day of the judgment, together with Christ, to immortal and glorious life.  Jesus made me comprehend that the most consoling thing for a Christian, and the highest and most sublime mysteries of our holy religion are:  Jesus in the Sacrament and the resurrection of our bodies to glory.  These are profound mysteries, which we will comprehend only beyond the stars; but Jesus in the Sacrament makes us almost touch them with our own hands, in different ways.  First, His Resurrection; second, His state of annihilation under those species, though it is certain that Jesus is there present, alive and real.  Then, once those species are consumed, His real presence no longer exists.  And as the species are consecrated again, He comes again to assume His sacramental state.  So, Jesus in the Sacrament reminds us of the resurrection of our bodies to glory:  just as Jesus, when His sacramental state ceases resides in the womb of God, His Father, the same for us – when our lives cease, our souls go and make their dwelling in Heaven, in the womb of God, while are bodies are consumed.  So, one can say that they will no longer exist; but then, with a prodigy of the omnipotence of God, our bodies will acquire new life, and uniting with the soul, will go together to enjoy the eternal beatitude.  Can there be anything more consoling for a human heart than the fact that not only the soul, but also the body will be beatified in the eternal contentments?  It seems to me that on that day it will happen as when the sky is starry and the sun comes out.  What happens?  With its immense light, the sun absorbs the stars and makes them disappear; yet the stars exist.  The sun is God, and all of the blessed souls are the stars; with His immense light, God will absorb us all within Himself, in such a way that we will exist in God and will swim in the immense sea of God.  Oh! how many things Jesus in the Sacrament tells us; but who can tell them all?  I would really be too long.  If the Lord allows it, I will reserve saying something else on other occasion.
